Five of the Best Toys For Twins.

If you're like me, finding the perfect toy(s) to buy my girls is really difficult. I've talked to many other twin moms about what they do for Christmas and birthdays, and each answer varies. Some moms buy their twins identical gifts. Two Barbies, two lego sets. Some moms want to encourage sharing so they buy their kids one Barbie instead.

Talking to some of my friends who are identical twins, I asked them what they preferred. ALL of them hated those two methods. They got bored with their identical gifts quickly since you can only play with the same toy for so long. They hated having only a single toy to share because one of them was always left out each time. They preferred having something they could both play with.

But how do you buy gifts for twins that encourages sharing, individuality, and doesn't leave one of them waiting for their turn all the time?

Buy a single toy that they can both play with! Yes, these toys are a bit pricier as stand-alone toys, but when you consider that you're buying it for two (or more) children, it really is a steal!

Here's a list of toys I've come up with just for you!

1) Activity Sets - These types of toys are amazing for babies and toddlers because there are so many activities to do! My girls got an Activity Garden from my parents this past Christmas and they love it! These types of toys are also great for play dates because even your children's friends can have something to play with as well! It encourages sharing because when your twins get bored with whatever activity they are playing with, they can switch and take turns. Price Range: $60-$90

2) See-saws - It's like see-saws were made for twins! Needing at least two kids to operate, these toys are great for both outdoors and indoors. I remember loving the see-saw my parents got for me and my siblings as a kid, but you need to see some of the see-saws they are coming up with now days! It's amazing! Price Range: $40-$70

3) Activity Tables - These are a classic toy that, like Activity Centers, are guaranteed to keep your kiddos busy! Most activity tables come with four sides. Each side offers a different activity so your twins can have constant play. These are also great because many of them are educational as well as fun!

It also promotes sharing as they will need to take turns. We found one on sale and bought it for our girls this past Christmas, and they love it! Price Range: $30-$60

Designing a Play Area for Twins.

This past weekend, as we put away the Christmas decorations, we decided to baby proof our apartment as well.  We rearranged everything and in the process, created a nice new play area for the girls. It is amazing what can be done with just a little moving of the furniture! We have a one-bedroom apartment, so space is definitely limited. However, we found a nice corner for the girls to play in and cased it in with some of their new Christmas toys!

Here is a look at what we've done:

The girls love their Christmas present from their papa and tutu! It's an activity garden!

The girls love their mirror! We bought the mirror at Walmart for just $4!!

Aria loves the camera!

I think these girls truly love their new space! It's all their own. One thing that I feel strongly about as a mother is letting my babies play. I think with twins it's easier because the temptation to hold your baby is not as strong since there are two of them both competing for attention. Therefore, Aria & Cadence aren't held nearly as much as other babies (but they are still held A LOT, don't get me wrong). They are allowed to crawl around and explore a lot more and for that, I'm grateful. Playtime = learning time.

If you have a "space" problem as well, try to design a play area that can keep your babies busy. A mirror at their eye level definitely draws their interest and having all of their toys be easily accessible makes for happy babies as well. We tried to close off their play area with the Activity Garden my parents bought off Amazon for their Christmas present! It is the greatest! It keeps the girls occupied for such a long time since each wall has its own activity. You can also rearrange the walls so it is enclosed but we prefer to spread it out to make it easier for both babies to use.

On a side note, another small addition to our house during all the baby proofing craziness is our Instagram wall! I have been planning to put these pictures up for months now but never got around to it. It has taken on several shapes since we put it up, but this is the final product and we're happy with it!

We are loving all the changes in our little place!
